Language Capstone

I took my first Portuguese class in the spring of 2013. I was a student at Brigham Young University at the time. When I came home that summer, however, a variety of reasons, including FIU's exceptional Latin American and Caribbean Center, compelled me to transfer to FIU that fall. Since then, I've taken six courses taught fully in Portuguese, and I have watched my language skills soar. Slowly but surely, I overcame my fear of speaking with natives. In fact, the day gave a ten minute presentation on the Amazon rain forest to a room full of native and heritage speakers without feeling totally inadequate was the day I realized that although I am far from mastering the language, I have come so far along. Because it was such a meaningful day, I've included the report that accompanied  my presentation here.
