Reflection

The Medallion of Excellence in Global Learning has undoubtedly increased my awareness of world issues and my perspective regarding those issues. I have been interested in Latin American and Latino studies for a long time, and the depth and breadth of my knowledge was certainly increased through my involvement in the Medallion requirements. However, what I believe was the most beneficial aspect of the Medallion to me personally was that, as a result of meeting Medallion requirements, I was actively engaged in learning about areas which extended far beyond the borders and waters of Latin America.

As I get ready to graduate and continue on to my professional life, I look forward to employing all that I've learned. In particular, I know that the level of Portuguese proficiency I've achieved will open the doors to many opportunities for cultural exchange, both with Brazilian Portuguese speakers, and with Portuguese speakers throughout the lusophone world. Further, I will continue digesting world events as reported in a variety of reputable sources. In this way, the skills I acquire and the perspectives I gained will propel me in the right direction as I take the necessary steps to eventually enter a career in diplomacy.
